Kho Kho Uganda has adopted its Strategic Plan for 2025/26 to 2029/30, a five-year roadmap for developing, promoting and professionalising the sport. Its theme is Building a Strong Foundation for Excellence, Growth, and Global Competitiveness in Khokho. The plan follows Uganda Vision 2040, the National Development Plan IV, the National Sports Act and the rules of the International and African Kho Kho federations.
It was drawn up by the interim executive committee under the President, together with delegates, Kho Kho Uganda clubs, the National Council of Sports, officials from the National Planning Authority and the Ministry of Education, and was presented to and approved by the Annual General Meeting.
Vision, mission and goal
To be a leading and inclusive sports Association that develops world-class Khokho talent and positions Uganda as a continental and global force in Khokho.
The mission is to promote and develop Kho Kho in Uganda by nurturing talent, expanding participation and upholding excellence, integrity and teamwork. The goal is a sustainable and competitive Kho Kho ecosystem that increases participation, develops elite athletes and improves Uganda's performance at regional and international level.
Five strategic objectives
- Governance and institutional capacity: better governance and accountability, working policies, a bigger membership, better reporting and a wider revenue base.
- Grassroots development and inclusion: more learners and communities playing, more districts and regions with active programmes, and more girls, women and marginalised groups taking part.
- Athlete development and competitive excellence: talent identification, stronger national teams, athlete welfare, a national ranking system and high-performance camps.
- Technical capacity and quality standards: more qualified coaches, referees and technical officials, standardised competitions, safe sport and anti-doping education.
- Partnerships, infrastructure and international cooperation: partnership agreements, sponsorship, standard courts, hosting events and representing Uganda abroad.
What the plan commits to
- Training 20 instructors in refereeing, coaching and administration, and about 500 referees, coaches and administrators every year.
- A league system with a super league, a second division, regional and district leagues, and a school and education-institution calendar.
- National teams for different age groups, led by a qualified technical team, with better welfare for players.
- A strategy for mass participation among young people, and a Beach Kho Kho development strategy from 2026.
- Eight sub-regional outdoor facilities by February 2028 and a Kho Kho Home with offices, indoor and outdoor facilities by April 2028.
